Tender Mercies

In the roll of a grief wave my tear-blurred eyes were searching Scripture for that “thread” of hope to cling to while riding the wave…when I landed here:

Psalm 145:9 “the LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

Jehovah, the Existing One is good to all… to all???

It takes eyes of faith to see all people and all circumstances in this broken world as God being good. But He is good to all. It is of His mercy we are not consumed; His steadfast faithfulness is new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) It is by His unparalleled sacrifice of His perfect Son that HE gave access to His throne and freely offers salvation to ALL. It is He Who keeps every heart beating, provides every breath, maintains all the intricate systems in every body to function and give life. He maintains the earth in orbit and commands the wind and waters. He superintends every natural disaster and Sovereignly works in every sin-filled, pride-governed one of us to use people, circumstances, and events for our good and His glory all the while calling and drawing men to Himself.

…“his tender mercies are over all his works.”

This.

This is what encourages me. Because the understanding is there that there are works that just don’t seem good through the eyes of the here and now. Yet, my eyes of faith do see tender mercies over the ugly and broken parts of my story and in others’ stories. The band of sisters I called upon to pray for me this week when a grief wave swept me off my feet—tender mercies. The money received in the mail, just when a need arose—tender mercies. My step-dad showing up when we were without electricity on a Sunday—tender mercies. Food shared with friends —tender mercies.

Are you up against something hard? Is there something heavy you must bear? Look for the tender mercies in your trial. His fingerprints of love are there. You just need to choose to recognize it. 💗

Misericordias Tiernas

En medio de una ola de angustia, con los ojos nublados por las lágrimas, buscaba en las Escrituras ese “hilo” de esperanza al cual aferrarme mientras pasaba la tormenta… y llegué aquí:

“Bueno es Jehová para con todos, y sus misericordias sobre todas sus obras.”– Salmo 145:9

Jehová, el que Existe por Sí Mismo, es bueno con todos… ¿con todos???

Se necesita tener ojos de fe para ver a todas las personas y todas las circunstancias en este mundo roto como parte de la bondad de Dios. Pero Él es bueno con todos. Es por su misericordia que no hemos sido consumidos; su fidelidad es nueva cada mañana. (Lamentaciones 3:23)
Es por el sacrificio incomparable de Su Hijo perfecto que Él nos dio acceso a Su trono y ofrece gratuitamente la salvación a TODOS. Él es quien mantiene cada corazón latiendo, quien da cada respiro, quien hace funcionar todos los sistemas complejos de cada cuerpo para darnos vida. Él mantiene el mundo en su órbita y da órdenes al viento y al mar. Supervisa cada desastre natural y obra Soberanamente incluso en cada uno de nosotros —llenos de pecado y gobernados por el orgullo— para usar personas, circunstancias y eventos para nuestro bien y Su gloria… y todo el tiempo sigue llamando y atrayendo a los hombres hacia Él.

“…y sus misericordias sobre todas sus obras.”

Esto.

Esto es lo que me anima. Porque entiendo que hay obras que, desde la perspectiva del presente, no parecen buenas. Sin embargo, con mis ojos de fe, puedo ver misericordias tiernas aún en las partes más feas y rotas de mi historia… y también en las historias de otros.

Las hermanas en Cristo a quienes llamé para que oraran por mí esta semana cuando una ola de duelo me tumbó —misericordias tiernas.

El dinero que llegó por correo justo cuando surgió una necesidad —misericordias tiernas.

Mi padrastro apareciendo cuando no teníamos luz un domingo —misericordias tiernas.

La comida compartida con amigos —misericordias tiernas.
